Join the Friendship League in Nairobi, Kenya as meet up with the Kenya Ice Lions for a 3 on 3 ice hockey tournament in the heart of Africa. Local Kenyan players will join every Friendship League team, meaning you’ll have no shortage of opportunities to fully immerse yourself in the local hockey scene! When we’re not at the rink, we’ll be exploring the vast natural and cultural wealth that Kenya has to offer. From the thriving metropolis of Nairobi to the Masai village of Maji Moto, this trip leaves no stones unturned!

Meet up with your fellow Friendship-Leaguers in the hotel lobby around 1pm to kick the tour off with a trip information session. Then, join our local guide for a trip to visit the Nai Nami NGO project. After a Nairobi city storytelling tour led by former street children, head to the world-famous Carnivore restaurant where you will be served an all-you-can-eat selection of exotic meats (veggie options available). Once you’re full, head back to the hotel to rest up for the big day ahead – or head out for a night on the town!

Get up early and hop in safari vans for a journey to the Maji Moto Ecolodge. Along the way, stop at various scenic lookout points – including a stop above the iconic Rift Valley. After arriving in Maji Moto, you’ll be joined by a team of traditional Masai warriors who will spend time teaching you about one of the world’s most fascinating cultures. You will spend time on nature walks, learning about animal tracking, enduring Masai warrior training and more! At night, sit around the campfire (that you just learned to start) and hear stories and songs about Masai life directly from the community.

Some of the best souvenirs in Kenya can be found at the Masai Market, which opens daily at a different location around the city. After visiting the many booths at the market, head out for a sampling of Ethiopian cuisine, which is perhaps the most flavorful and unique on the continent. Spend the afternoon learning about wildlife conservation and see orphaned elephants up-close at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, before trying to feed a giraffe at the participant-favorite Giraffe Centre. After having dinner at a local restaurant, return to the Panari Sky Center for the first games with the Kenya Ice Lions.

Perhaps the most unique aspect of Nairobi is its proximity to wildlife. Nairobi National Park is home to all of the big five animals, and sits just outside of our hotel. In fact, if you bring binoculars, you might even see some animals from your room! Wake up early to catch the morning animals before spending the day on safari with an expert guide. In the afternoon, head back to the hotel for some participant free time before the second day of games start!

Start the day by visiting the impressive Nairobi National Museum which hosts exhibits on the nature, culture, history and contemporary art of the country. Walk across the street for a visit to the Nairobi Snake Museum, for a fascinating tour outlining the various species found around Kenya. After lunch, visit the Bomas of Kenya for a guided tour and artistic performance highlighting the various cultural groups that call Kenya home. Head back to the Panari Sky Center for some participant free time before the third day of games with the Ice Lions.

Spend the morning playing out the final games of the tournament to see who will be crowned champion of the second Kenya Ice Hockey Experience event. After the games, enjoy some participant free time before heading to a local restaurant to meet the Ice Lions for the Friendship Banquet.

Get up the next morning and fly home!
